they look back up, and continue to walk in the direction of the canister. they pass an instalment of the “iPad Pro” — a weird, flat, tablet-like device, which was supposed to perform the functions of the tiny projector {{name}} carries with them. it also had something called an “Apple Pencil” that was seemingly used to write on the tablet device with.
they take their projector device out. in this world, it’s called a Poke. they tap the fag-end of the Poke, and it projects a flat holographic screen up. there’s a text from their friend, the person they were supposed to meet at the event. they’ve said they’re almost there.
they say okay, and move back to where they were. they walk past displays of a shoelace, a ticket stub from a movie theatre, and similar other objects until they finally arrive at the canister. the unsettling feeling returns again, almost as if a slap to their face. they hold the Poke up to their lips and take a deep drag. a warm, calm flows into them. but the unsettling feeling continues, persists through the drug.
the sign on the canister reads, “Fractured Memory #1.” they read the sign but struggle to focus. from what they can tell, it’s a piece of history that was used to control people’s minds, bring them into subjugation. they conclude that this is why it might be so unsettling. the programme will start soon, and they assume all will be explained soon. they move away, heading towards the canteen.
